HOUSING & HEALTHCARE FOR ALL ORGANIZING MEETING
We’re hosting a joint committee meeting on Monday, May 20th, where we’ll be diving into critical next steps and planning actions for the summer. This won’t be just another meeting—we’re getting ready for a busy and hot labor summer, and we need all hands on deck.
Here’s what’s on the agenda:
Defending Medicaid from harmful cuts threatening our most vulnerable communities
Championing the Medicare for All Act of 2025
Hearing from local housing experts about key campaigns and opportunities for action
Mapping out our summer plans for organizing, outreach, and community mobilization
Monday, May 20th
6:00PM
2617 K Street, Sacramento CA, 95816
Come ready to share, strategize, and build power. Let’s make sure our communities are seen, heard, and protected this summer and beyond

LEGISLATIVE LOBBY DAY BREAKFAST
Our legislative lobby breakfast is an opportunity for labor leaders to meet and ask questions of our region’s legislators. We’ll spend about with each elected and discuss current legislation and issues that pertain to important labor movement priorities.

NO CUTS TO MEDICAID RALLY
Our healthcare—and our communities—are under threat.
Congressman Kevin Kiley is considering devastating cuts to Medicaid, a move that would endanger access to care for millions of working families, seniors, people with disabilities, and children right here in California.
That’s why SEIU-UHW is calling on you to join us in action next Tuesday for a small but powerful rally at Dignity Mercy Hospital of Folsom in Rep. Kiley’s district. We need to make it loud and clear: cutting Medicaid is a direct attack on our health and our dignity.
Dignity Mercy Hospital Folsom – Tuesday May, 13
Time: 11:30AM
Location: 1650 Creekside Dr. Folsom CA 95630
Let’s show Rep. Kiley that we won’t sit silently while our health is on the chopping block. Join UHW and community members as we demand he vote NO on Medicaid cuts and stand with the people he was elected to represent—not corporate interests.
Your voice matters. Your presence matters. Together, we can protect healthcare for all.

Health Care Canvass Training
We are the only high-income country that does not guarantee health coverage. We have among the lowest rates of physician visits and practicing physicians, the lowest number of hospital beds, and the shortest hospital stays. We live the shortest lives and have the most avoidable deaths. Our health care access and experience is the least equitable. We have the highest rate of infant and maternal deaths. The problem is profit-seeking. We need public-funded health care for everyone.

Housing Canvass Training
Over fifty percent of Sacramento residents are renters. About thirty percent of renters in Sacramento report paying half of their income on rent, and about half of all renters reported paying more than 35% of their income on rent. This is not affordable—and it is not sustainable. As a result of high rents and a lack of public housing support, nearly 10,000 people are living unhoused in Sacramento County on any given night. We must mobilize to win housing for everybody in our community.
