Over fifty percent of Sacramento residents are renters. About thirty percent of renters in Sacramento report paying half of their income on rent, and about half of all renters reported paying more than 35% of their income on rent. This is not affordable—and it is not sustainable. As a result of high rents and a lack of public housing support, nearly 10,000 people are living unhoused in Sacramento County on any given night.
