About Sac CLC
OUR PRINCIPLES
-
Our mission is to secure the rights of every working person to participate in and exercise leadership in a union that represents workers in their workplace.
We fight to ensure that all people are treated fairly at their job with living wages, health and retirement benefits, safe working conditions, respect, and equality.
-
The Sacramento Central Labor Council is a powerful catalyst for transformative change. We amplify the voices of all workers to advance a future of fair wages, safe conditions, and justice in every workplace and community. Through unity and solidarity, we pave the way for every worker to thrive.
-
■ We advocate for workers and union standards.
■ We believe all workers should have living wages, job protections, safe workplaces, and benefits.
■ We believe that all workers should have a voice in their workplaces, feel empowered, and have the ability to exercise their power.
■ We strive to achieve economic justice and social justice for all.
■ We advocate for improving the overall quality of life for our workers and the communities we live in.
-
1. Grow, strengthen, and broaden the Sacramento metro area labor movement.
2. Increase political power for working people.
3. Build a safe and just Sacramento metro area with greater economic equality and the ability for workers to live where they work.
4. Raise public awareness about the importance and influence of unions.
5. Engage and mobilize leaders, members, and community allies.

OUR WORK
-
SOLIDARITY ORGANIZING
We support the organizing efforts of our member unions and all workers seeking to unionize and establish democratic determination over the conditions of their work. We show up on picket lines, publish news about actions and recruit members to support, train workers in organizing tactics and strategies, share useful materials for organizing actions, and publicize active organizing campaigns in our region.
-
EDUCATION & TRAINING
We offer a variety of workshops and training events, including Labor 101 workshops for labor allies in politics, Organizing Institutes for workers who want to learn the basics of labor organizing, and many other classes, talks, and strategy sessions. We also organize reading groups, and offer free membership to our library with hundreds of physical and digital labor books and useful tools for labor actions.
-
POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT
We support pro-labor legislation and elected officials, and hold our public stewards accountable for policies that affect working people. Through candidate interviews and a formal democratic process, Sac CLC evaluates and endorses candidates and legislation. We offer strategic leadership and organize volunteers to phone bank and canvass in support of pro-worker campaigns.
-
PUBLIC AWARENESS
We raise public awareness about important issues affecting workers through digital and print publishing, social media, audio and video production, local press outreach and public comment, field campaigns with phone banking and canvassing, reports on labor issues, and public events including workshops and special trainings, such as our Labor 101 workshops and Organizing Institutes.
-
COMMUNITY SERVICES
We organize volunteer service activities for our union members to support important causes in the community according to their abilities, and to receive support from their union comrades in a spirit of mutual aid according to their needs. Activities include holiday food and gift drives, food bank services, natural habitat cleanup, public benefits application assistance, and support at CLC public events.
-
WORKER EMPOWERMENT
The goal of everything we do is to build greater power for workers to unionize all workplaces, collectively bargain fairer contracts that better compensate the workers who produce all wealth, enforce safe and comfortable working conditions, win pro-worker laws and policies, hold politicians accountable to the working class, and educate and organize to bring more workers into the movement.
