UPTE Lab Scientists Picket At CAHFS

UPTE informational picket at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, in solidarity with the laboratory workers at the California Animal Health & Food Safety Lab System (CAHFS), who are facing severe understaffing and unsafe working conditions that undermine their ability to test for diseases like avian flu—in the midst of an unprecedented outbreak!

You can support the important efforts of the workers at CAHFS to address the crisis of understaffing and worker burnout by sending an email to Mark Stetter, the dean of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, explaining why you stand with the CAHFS workers and why it is essential that UC address their concerns immediately. UPTE has drafted a model email with important information that you can use as a template by clicking on this link or on the button below, or by visiting upte.org/cahfs.

Our comrades at UPTE have asked us to join an important informational picket next Wednesday at noon at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, so we’ll be out on the line in solidarity and we invite you all to join us.

Lab scientists at the California Animal Health & Food Safety Lab System (CAHFS) are raising concerns about severe understaffing and unsafe working conditions that jeopardize their ability to test for diseases like the H5N1 avian flu.

UC Davis workers are standing up not only for their own well-being but for the critical safety of everyone in the state of California. This is the only lab in the state with the authority to confirm bird flu cases!

You can read more about the harrowing working conditions at “the first line of defense in the state’s effort to track and prevent the spread of the H5N1 virus” in the Sunday report from the Los Angeles Times.

If you are free next Wednesday at noon, please join us on the line at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, 944 Garrod Dr, Davis, CA 95616. To RSVP to the action and learn more from UPTE, visit upte.org/cahfs or click on the button below.
